Muller's family came to Commerce in 1916 when two brothers, John and Charles Muller Sr., sold their electric, ice, water and coal business in Midlothian and moved to Commerce to purchase the Commerce Ice Company. The business later expanded to include making ice cream and the Coca-Cola Bottling Works. They later built one of the first freezer and locker plants in Texas in 1938.
