Forney 45
Commerce 7
COMMERCE -- Caleb Hanie passed for three touchdowns and ran for another in the first half
to lead Forney to a surprisingly easy 45-7 win over non-district rival Commerce Friday
night at Memorial Stadium.
It was the worst defeat of a Commerce team since Wylie shellacked the Tigers in a
non-district contest in 1993. Commerce went on to win district that year.
The Tigers made a valiant effort in the second half. Commerce managed to avoid the shutout
despite managing only 117 yards of total offense when Jesse Boyter stole the ball from
Michael Erwin and raced 36 yards for the score.
Commerce did have one other score called back in the third period when a 34-yard run by
Phifer was called back by a holding penalty well behind the play.
Commerce will open District 10-3A play next Friday when they host Princeton at Memorial
Stadium.
