Forney 21, Commerce 13
COMMERCE - A battle between two of the top offensive teams in the state turned into a
defensive struggle Friday night at Memorial Stadium as the No.1 state-ranked Forney
Jackrabbits held off the seventh-ranked Commerce Tigers, 21-13.
The win clinched the District 11-3A title for the Jackrabbits, (9-0 for the season, 4-0 in
district play), ending a nine-year championship reign for Commerce. The Tigers (7-2, 3-1)
kept a more important streak alive however, as they wrapped up a playoff spot for the 12th
straight season following Bonham's victory at Quinlan.
Commerce held the high-powered Forney offense to just 256 yards of total offense but the
Jackrabbit defense was just as stingy, yielding only 215 total yards to the Tigers.
All-state running back DaBryan Blanton was held to a season-low 169 yards rushing on 27
carries by Commerce, but two of those went for touchdown runs of 33 and 76 yards.
Commerce's Tommy Wright almost matched those numbers as he tallied 116 yards on 26
carries, including scoring runs of 40 and 11 yards.
