After going undefeated in the regular season, 19 Commerce Tigers were selected for the
11-3A All-District football team for the 2000 season.
Tiger noseguard Joseph McDaniel took one of the top honors in the district as the
Defensive Player of the Year. The Commerce High School senior was also named to the first
team offense as an offensive lineman.
Eight Commerce players were placed on the First Teamfour to the offense and four on
defense. Commerce's first-teamers include, on offense: juniorr running back Tommy Wright;
senior tight end Zach Phifer; junior offensive lineman Chris Alsobrook and senior
offensive lineman Joseph McDaniel. On defense: junior defensive linemen David Petty and
Justin Rogers; junior linebacker Moises Santibanez; and senior defensive back Antonio
Kull.
Junior running back Billy Mercer was one of 11 Tigers selected to the All-District Second
Team. Junior wide receiver Antonio Burell made the Second Team Offense, along with
teammates senior tight end Matt Plunkett, senior offensive lineman William Jones and
freshman kicker Bart Bryant. Second-team defenders included defensive linemen Broderick
Hearn, Ryan Coffey, Zach Phifer, senior linebacker Jon Luckey, defensive backs Larry
Hatley and Tommy Wright.
Honorable Mention honors went to: lineman Eric Walden, quarterback Shawn Droddy, running
back/defensive back DeMarcus Harrison, and defensive backs Shayne Brisbin and Matt
Woodley.
Commerce Tigers Matt Woodley, Eric Walden, Michael Munoz, Joseph McDaniel, Antonio Kull,
Shayne Brisbin, Bill Warren, Matt Plunkett, Jason Peek, Billy Mercer, Colin Heath and Ryan
Coffey also received Academic All-District Honors.
Commerce coaches shared the Coaching Staff of the Year honor with district rival Forney.
Headed by Steve Bragg, the coaching staff consists of Brandon Beadles, David Carrillo,
Jeff Davidson, Bill Draughn, Don Madden, Alan McDougal and Joe Spinato.
