COMMERCE -- Thunder and lightning were the featured attractions as Commerce overcame the miserable weather conditions to claim a 29-0 win over Farmersville in an abbreviated District 10-3A contest Friday night at Farmers Stadium.
The second half delay was actually the second of the game as play was suspended with 6:02 to play in the opening period as Farmersville (4-3, 1-3) was preparing to punt.
Play resumed about 15 minutes later and Commerce was on the scoreboard just 13 seconds later when Matt Prater's punt was blocked and Stephen Fields scooped up the loose ball and sloshed 17 yards for the touchdown. Bart Bryant's point-after try, which game in the teeth of a strong wind and heavy rain, was short and Commerce had a 6-0 lead with 5:49 left in the first period.
Commerce rushed for 258 yards on 25 carries and did not attempt a pass. Farmersville managed just 53 total yards, all on the ground. Jarrod Craddock led the Farmers with 35 yards rushing on 14 carries. -- Reported by Kevin Carson
