Commerce 35, Bonham 16
COMMERCE The Commerce offense pulled out all the stops and the defense put a halt to Bonham's high-powered passing attack to take a 35-16 District 11-3A victory Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
The win was the 10th straight for the Tigers over their long-time district rival and improved their mark to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in district play. It was the first loss of the year for the Purple Warriors, who fell to 1-1 in district action and 6-1 overall.
Commerce used a wide-open and unorthodox attack, which included a flanker pass and hook-and-lateral play, to rack up 437 yards of total offense. The Tiger defense grounded Bonham quarterback Jeffrey Hill, the district's leading passer, allowing the junior to complete only 5-of-24 passes for 48 yards with three interceptions. Overall, the Purple Warriors managed just 225 total yards in 73 plays, 108 of those coming on a pair of fourth quarter scoring drives
