Commerce 34, Royse city 14
ROYSE CITY - The senior-dominated offense of Commerce dominated the Royse City defense
Friday night as the Tigers rolled up 481 yards of total offense to claim a 34-14 District
11-3A victory at Bulldog Stadium.
Senior quarterback Shawn Droddy hit classmate Antonio Burrell on touchdown passes of 12
and 60 yards while the senior running tandem of Ryan Coffey and Tommy Wright rushed for
three scores to pace Commerce.
Wright, who led all rushers with 256 yards on 19 carries, scored on an 80-yard run in the
second quarter. Coffey rushed just four times for 33 yards but two of those went for
touchdowns. He also had an 82-yard run called back by a penalty the play before Wright's
long run.
The victory sets the stage for next week's showdown with No. 1 state-ranked Forney for the
district title. The Tigers, who improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in district play, are
ranked sixth in the latest Associated Press state poll.
