COMMERCE Defending class 3-A state champion, Commerce, held
Princeton to 95 yards of total offense and notched its sixth shutout of the
season with a 20-0 District 11-3A win Friday night at Memorial
Stadium.
The victory was the 26th straight for Commerce (10-0, 5-0) and secured
a ninth consecutive district title.
Tommy Wright scored on a 18-yard pass from Shawn Droddy in the first
quarter and added a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth period, to lead
Commerce. The other Commerce score came in the third quarter, when
Zach Phifer recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.
Princeton (1-9, 1-4), which managed just 4 first downs, was led by
Shane Capps with 59 yards rushing.

COMMERCE - Hampered by a sloppy Memorial Stadium field, it took the Commerce Tigers nearly 15 minutes post their first score.
On the other hand, the Princeton Panthers were unable to score in 48 minutes as Commerce claimed its ninth straight district title with the 20-0 Friday night win. The shutout was the sixth of the season for the Tigers.
Commerce, which ends the regular season with an undefeated season and a District 11-3A record at 10-0 and 5-0 respectively, advances to the bi-district round next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. bi-district playoff game against Wills Point, the District 12-3A runner-up, at Hamby Stadium in Mesquite.
Commerce, the defending Class 3A Division II state champion and currently ranked eighth in the state, accounted for 339 yards of total offense with 227 coming on the ground.
