FORNEY -- A furious fourth-quarter comeback couldn't overcome a pair of critical miscues in the third as Commerce dropped a 33-29 decision to Forney Friday night.
Forney, 3-1 on the season, took advantage of two Commerce fumbles, in the third quarter to build a comfortable 33-16 lead.
But Commerce, which fell to 1-2 on the year, came roaring back.
A 3-yard run by Ryan Burrell and Eddie Hines' 25-yard scoring run on the following possession pulled the Tigers to within four points with about four minutes left.
The Commerce defense held Forney in check for much of the second half but a pair of fumbles by Phifer on back-to-back possessions resulted in two short scoring drives for Forney.
Commerce finished with 333 yards of total offense while Forney collected 336.
Phifer was 6-of-10 for 145 yards and added 66 yards rushing. Burrell led all Commerce rushers with 70 yards on 12
