As an amateur astronomer, I am certainly interested in the question of "How did this universe come about?" I am very satisfied that I know the answer to that question: God designed and created it. It had a beginning. For over 50 years scientist have pointed to all the evidence that our universe had a start. They call that idea the big bang. Great minds such as Einstein and even Stephen Hawking have made references to the likelihood of a designer of all this.
Please take a minute of your time to look at some amazing facts about the Bible below.
God has given us a guide and history book. Of course I'm talking about the bible. The bible was written by several dozen authors over the time-span of 1600 years. Most of these men never saw or knew one another. If you understand the bible, then you realize that it has a central theme and a grand story. And all parts of the Bible point in the same direction, they point toward the coming kingdom of God where the curse that was placed upon this world will be un-done. This is mentioned as early as the 3rd chapter of the first book of the bible (Genesis 3-15). One day all the troubles we now have as human beings will be swept away. And if you have insight, then you will enjoy all His riches!
COSMOLOGY
The Greeks thought the earth rested upon the back of a man called Atlas. Hindus thought the earth was placed upon the back of elephants. Ancient Egyptians believed the earth rested upon 5 pillars. Job 26;7 says that God "Hangs the Earth on nothing". Look who was right!
We have all heard that many believed the earth was flat in pre-Columbian days. Isaiah said in his book chapter 40 verse 22 "It is God that sit upon the circle (Hebrew word for globe or sphere) of the earth." This was written around 600 B.C. Isaiah had the inside story didn't he! In 150 B.C., Hipparchus numbered the stars at 1,022 after very careful observation. A few hundred years later Ptolemy changed that number to 1,026 after even more observation. About 1000 years later Galileo discovered many, many more with the aid of his new invention the telescope. Only with the technique of astrophotography in the late 19th century have we come to realize the seemingly infinite number of stars. But we were already told this......2,600 years ago! Jeremiah says in Jeremiah 33:22 "As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured." *
Which is easier to see: A 17 billion year old universe that arose from absolutely nothing 6 months before17 billion years ago? Or some thing or power; some force (God) that is on a different plane, a different dimension or level that we don't (and cannot) understand that brought all this into being?
HISTORY
The entire book of Daniel is alive with history! It is a mix of HIS STORY that has already happened and HIS STORY that has yet to come. In fact, Daniel did so well in prophesying the next 400 years after he lived that many non-believing historians have gone to great lengths to try and discredit his writings. Many finally came up with the explanation that Daniel was actually written "after-the-fact". They concluded that it had to be a fake. That was their only way to explain how Daniel accurately foretold actual world history. You see, Daniel predicted accurately the rise and fall of the Babylonian empire, the Medo-Persian empire, the Greek empire of Alexander the Great, and the Roman empire. He even points out the untimely death of Alexander the Great and the division of his empire among his four generals! I will strongly suggest that you understand what the book of Daniel tells. When you understand exactly what Daniel foretold, then you will know that there is a God who is sovereign over the universe, and He gave Daniel the knowledge to predict several water-shed world events. Wake up and smell the coffee! This evidence is one of the ways God tries to tell us He is real!
Other old testament prophets accurately predict many events, including the captivity of the Israelis in Babylon, their release by Darius the Mede, and countless other examples. It was predicted that the Jewish people would be scattered across the earth but would come back to Israel. In 1948, the nation of Israel was officially re-born by the action of the United Nations. Many predictions about Jesus were predicted that came true. Jesus' death by crucifixion was predicted in Psalm 22 before crucifixion was ever even used as a form of capitol punishment. So convinced were the five hundred who witnessed Jesus alive after his death that many of them would later pay for that truth with their lives. With no hope for physical or material gain, they died for Christ because they were no longer afraid of death. Men may live for a lie, but none will die for a lie.*
SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST?
A close study of history will reveal that since 3600 B.C., the world has known only 292 years free of war. In this period of time there have been 14,532 different wars great and small throughout the world. Over 3.5 billion people have been killed in these wars! Since the time that most of the world rejected the Prince of Peace 2000 years ago, there has not been a single year that the world has not experienced a war. The United States has been involved in 13 wars in the short time we have been a government. WHY IS THIS? A lot of good and seemingly intelligent men and women have been elected to places of authority and leadership. From emperors to prime ministers; from presidents to chairman, they have all said "We want peace." Why is it that the world throughout all its history has known war after war after war?**
OR IS THERE REALLY A DEVIL?
The human species murders its own kind in exponential numbers compared to all other species of animals on the Earth. And secular biologists and sociologist try to say we are the most highly evolved species of all. NEED I SAY MORE? There is a power behind the great evil in the world and that power is no fairy tale or horror movie character. It is Satan, and the blood of billions of the earth's people are on his hands. See Ephesians 6; verses 10-12 and many other such Biblical references.
UNITY
The Bible is one book, yet it is made up of 66 books.
God's word was written by at least 40 different authors over a period of 1,600 years.
The Bible was written in about 13 different countries on 3 different continents.
The Bible was written in at least 3 different languages by people from all kinds of professions: shepherds, kings, soldiers, princes, priests, fisherman, scholars, historians, businessmen, and common laborers.
Did the Bible get written apart from divine inspiration? ABSOLUTELY NOT!*
CONCLUSIONS
Don't be afraid or too proud to "bow your knee" to the Lord. We all want to think that we can handle our lives and run the show ourselves, but there is a much better way........God's way. You cannot believe the peace that will over-take you once you accept Jesus as your savior and Lord. To quote an old TV commercial: "Try it, you'll like it!" The change in your life may not occur overnight, but if you will give it a chance, you will soon notice a "rebirth" of your whole self. Then as you grow as a new Christian, you will realize the new power in your life. And you will be a part of God's Kingdom forever! Think about these words; you owe it to yourself.
