The Northern Milky Way
This two-frame mosaic shows the northern milky way with its many areas of red emission nebula and inter-stellar dust. The region in this image stretches from the near-polar constellation of Cephus on the left to the constellation of Cygnus at middle and right. The brightest star of Cygnus is Deneb, the blue star in the center of the two frames. Just below it are the North American and Pelican nebulas. Other areas of note are IC 1396 at left, the nebulosity around the yellow star Sadar just right of center, a very small veil nebula at bottom right, and an even smaller Cocoon nebula at the bottom of a small vertical dust band at lower left.
This image is a two-frame mosaic. Each frame is a composite of two exposures on Kodak PPF 400 film made with a Pentax 67 camera and a 165mm lens at f/4.
