NGC 7000 and IC 5070
The North American and Pelican Nebulas
This is a beautiful pair of emission nebula in Cygnus. The are large; NGC 7000 at 120' and IC 5070 at 60'. Their shapes give rise to their names. The North American Nebula (left) should be obvious with the gulf of Mexico, Florida, and Mexico "areas" being easy to see. The Pelican Nebula is not quite as easy to see: he is facing the NA nebula with long bill pointing down toward "central America" and an eye where a "hole" is in the nebulosity.
This image is a composite of hypered Kodak PPF and E200 color film, all for one hour. In addition, a Technical Pan exposure was used as a luminance composite. They were made with a Takahashi BRC 250 astrograph.
