M-83 the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy
M-83 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy in Hydra. Its southern position makes it a difficult astrophoto target for those of us on the northern third of the planet and my image really doesn't do this galaxy justice. I would invite you to look at a truly magnificent image by the master astrophotographer David Malin at http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu/messier/Jpg/m83.jpg .
My image is a composite of 3 one hour exposures on hypered Kodak PJ400 plus a single hypered Kodak TP 60 minute exposure. Shot with my 12.5" f/7 Newtonian telescope.
