The M-8/ M-20/ NGC 6559 Complex

This rich area of the southern Milky Way is in the constellation Sagittarius. M-8 dominates this scene at lower center, while M-20 is above.  NGC 6559 is the designation given to the dark red nebula to the left of M-8 and the small globular cluster NGC 6544 is at the bottom of the frame.

The widefield image is a single 50 minute exposure on Kodak E200 film made with a Takahashi BRC 250. In composite with it are overlays of the 3 nebular regions acquired with my 12.5" Newtonian on hypered Kodak LE400 film. Total exposure time including the composite inlays is about 9 hours.
