M-74

M-74 is a face-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces. Its core is somewhat bright at magnitude 10, but its arms have a low surface brightness.  Several areas of emission nebula can be seen in the spiral arms.

This image is a composite of two 60 minute exposures on hypered Kodak PJ 400 film. They were made with my 12.5" Newtonian.
