M-33 the Pinwheel Galaxy
M-33 is a large Galaxy; the second largest in terms of apparent size only behind the great Andromeda Galaxy. It is bright compared to most other galaxies, but it has a low surface brightness. It has several regions of emission nebula within its arms and some even have their own NGC designation number. Skilled observers have been able to see this object without visual aid, but it must be done under excellent dark sky conditions and one must know exactly where to look.
This image is a two frame mosaic made with composites of two 60 minute exposures each on hypered Kodak LE 400. They were shot with the 12.5" f/7 Newtonian.
