M-20 the Trifid Nebula
M-20 is a very striking photographic object. It's bright and large enough for smaller telescopes; and it's beautiful combination of red emission nebula and blue reflection nebula make it an astrophotographer's favorite. Dust lanes cross its expanse and partition it into 3 sections; hence the name trifid.
This image is a composite of two 60 minute exposures with my 12.5" f/7 Newtonian. They were made on hypered Kodak PJ 400 film.
