M-106 and NGC 4217
These two galaxies are located in Canes Venaciti not far from the big dipper. M-106 (left) is a bright spiral about 25 million light years distant. Dust lanes and some emission regions can be seen in this photo. There are at least 7 other galaxies which can be seen in this photo besides the two larger ones.
This image is a composite of a 90 minute and a 75 minute exposure on Kodak PJ 400. They were made with the 12.5" f/7 Newtonian.
