COPYRIGHT STATEMENT
Astro-imaging is a demanding and technical form of photography and requires the use of expensive, high-quality equipment. Often the photographer and his equipment must travel to remote dark sites far away from city lights. High quality astrophotography also requires skills which come about only after years of patient learning and experimentation. Only the dedicated and committed astrophotographer will acquire skills and equipment that allow his images to be worthy of reproduction and use by others.
I have inquiries about the use of my images for various purposes from time to time. These have included advertising, publication, display for art, educational use, and presentation for slide shows and other media. Generally speaking I expect compensation for the use of my images except for certain non-profit uses such as presentation to groups and clubs.
The compensation for their use is based upon what the images will be used for. If my images are used for marketing and other "for profit" ventures, then fees can be in the several hundred dollar range. The fees for one-time use rights in publications are not that high, but compensation is also expected for these uses.
