NGC 2264; the Cone and Christmas Tree Nebulas
This emission nebula in Monoceros contains the open star cluster NGC 2264. The cluster spans some 20 light years and is about 3000 light years away. The "cone" can easily be seen at the left of this image as a dark area. It points toward stars that appear to outline a Christmas tree.
This image is a composite of a 75 minute and a 60 minute exposure on hypered Kodak PJ400 film. It was shot with my 12.5" f/7 Newtonian.
